July 22 Weekly Update

Market
New this week are Purple-top Turnips, sweet baby carrots, mini Japanese Eggplant, baby English Cucumbers, greenhouse tomatoes and basil.  Also continue to find beets, kale, collards, green beans, spinach, garlic and more.
Look for us this coming weekend at Denver Urban Homesteading and Old Town Ft. Collins in addition to Cherry Creek and Old South Pearl St.

Spotlight: Kale is King
Kale has been receiving a lot of buzz lately.  Here are a few reasons why.
***Kale has potent anti-cancer properties in the form of the chemicals indol-3-carbinol and Sulforaphane.
***Kale scores a perfect 1,000 on the Aggregate Nutrient Density Index, a food-rating system that measures nutrients per calorie.
***Kale chips are delicious and easy to make
***In north-western Germany a whole culture has developed around Kale complete with yearly kale festivals.

*** LFF is growing several varieties of kale this year including Red Russian, White Russian, Scotch Blue Curly, Biera, Red Bor and Lacinato/Dinosaur.
