Colorado Aquaponics
Members enjoyed beautiful tatsoi and Romaine lettuce compliments of Colorado Aquaponics last week.  Exchanging produce between our farms gives shares more variety and we are happy for the chance to bring you more delicious, local produce.  To learn more about the Denver based greenhouse see their website at www.coloradoaquaponics.com.

Around the farm

This past week we have been unloading our greenhouse and transplanting out all the starter plants in the field.  This is some of what we have in the ground as of now:
Eggplant– Clara White, Japanese Long, Italian, Fairy Tale, Hansel, Gretel, and Kermit.
Hot Peppers– Scorpion, Bhut Jolokia Ghost, Chocolate Ghost, Yellow Ghost, White Habanero, Caribbean Red Habanero,  Orange Habanero, Serrano, Jalapeño, Italian Relleno, Large Cayenne, Purple Firework Cayenne, Chinese Five Color, Bulgarian Carrot, Ordono, Naga Viper, Chi Chien, Korean Kimchi, and Moscow Anaheim,
Sweet Peppers– Green, Yellow, and Red Bell, Mini Chocolate Bell, and Costa Rican Sweet
Tomatoes– Beefmaster, Early Girl, and Celebrity
Basil– Genovese, Italian Large Leaf, Sacred, and Dark Opal
Artichoke– Imperial Star and Violet
Flowers– Zinnias, Rudebeckia, Echinacea, Lavender
Seedlings are coming up…..mostly.
We had great germination on our favas, beets, green beans, and edamame.  This was due to planting seed right before we got precipitation on the farm.  Some of the shallow planted seed did not fair as well though because the moisture was quickly wicked away from the top layer by the wind.  Lettuce, spinach, radish, and bunching onions had good germ but we had almost zero germination with our first carrot crop.  We began to replant each variety of carrots today and will hopefully finish tomorrow.
Irrigation
This past week has also proven to be a bit challenging with our irrigation pump but looks like we’re all fixed up and ready to irrigate for the first time this season.  This should really help get those carrots up this time!
Next to plant
Our second field is now plowed, bedded, and ready to be planted.  We will be planting our sweet corn, pumpkins, winter and summer squash, cucumbers, popcorn and heirloom dry beans in this field next week.
Come see us at market
We will be at the farmer’s market in Fort Collins on Saturday and on Pearl Street in Denver on Sunday, please come down and say hi!

Have a great weekend!
